The world premiere of Liz Duffy Adams' Dog Act is produced by the scrappy but resourceful Shotgun Players, under the direction of Kent Nicholson — who riveted audiences this summer with Dave Eggers' Sacrament!. In a post-apocalyptic setting where only the vaudevillian is sacred, pitting tramp against tramp in a fight for survival, Dog has a dark secret; only his redemption offers a way out from the rubble of ruined civilization. Adams' language is pithy, inventive, and riotously funny, and the surprisingly effective re-creation of a vaudeville act, enlivened by Stewart Port's scruffy "found object" instruments, adds just the right combination of hilarity and homage.
